Family History

Horace was born in 1895 in East Bridgford and was the son of Samuel a waggoner on a farm and Ann Cloxton of East Bridgford. Samuel and Ann had a total of 6 children, sadly 2 died in infancy Horace had siblings John, Gertrude and Alice. In the 1911 census , Horace is 16 years of age , he is a farm labourer and living with his family in East Bridgford with his sister Alice yrs of age.

Military History

Horace enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 23rd battery, 40th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. He died of wounds on 18th July 1916, his body was never recovered or identified and his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Somme
